Recession: Senate calls for sack of these Buhari’s ministers




The Senate has called for a shakeup in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet to allow competent hands serve in critical sectors of the economy in view of the current economic recession in the country.
The senators who resumed on Tuesday, September 20, weeks after going on recess deliberated on how to get Nigeria out of the current economic crisis and also to invite the executive to explain to Nigerians steps being taken to restore the economyAt the session, deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, advocated for the reshuffling of the cabinet by President Buhari to enable him put competent persons in critical sectors, Daily Post reports.
He said: “Distinguished Senators, look at my friend Senator Udoma Egba, Minister of Budget and National Planning, as a lawyer, what can he do? He can be at his best in a sector related to his area of competence. ”
Ekweremadu said the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, can be assigned to another ministry to give way to a more competent person due to the situation at hand.
On his part, Dino Melaye called for an outright sack of the economic team as well as some ministers on the grounds that some have failed the nation.
He said: “Mr Senate President, we have to tell ourselves the truth at this time of the day, some Minister and Buhari’s economic team have failed and they should be sacked.”
Senate leader, Ali Ndume in his speech, told his colleagues that the economic recession was not caused by the present government.
He said the recession was a global one and that those countries successfully came out of it.
Senator Shehu Sani on his part questioned sharing formula of the federal monthly allocations, saying, it make Nigeria citizens to be lazy.
He said: “Nigeria has been in recession and what is happening is that the situation has only been aggravated as a result of laziness and corruption by past administrations.”
